Welcome To Pre-K!
My name is Rebecca Barrett and I will be your child's teacher this year. Our class is the Busy Bee’s. I would like you to know a little about me. My husband and I have a daughter in college. I enjoy going to high school football games. I also watch as many football games as I can for Auburn, Georgia Tech, Clemson and the Falcons. Growing up I lived in three states and attended eleven different schools by the time I graduated from high school. Because of that I believe children need a good foundation in their early education. I am looking forward to a year filled with learning and fun with your child.
Your child’s successful transition depends on several things. One of the most important is regular, prompt attendance. Please try to have your child at school on time every day. (The tardy bell rings at 7:40. Your child should be in the classroom when the bell rings.)
PARENT-TEACHER COMMUNICATION: You are the most important teacher your child will have. I will do my best to keep in touch with you through newsletters, telephone calls, notes, as well as parent conferences. Please call me at the school after 2:45 any day of the school week.
CONFERENCES: Pre-K will have two conferences- one toward the end of the first semester and a second in May. If at ant time you need to talk to me, please send a note in the agenda or call after 2:45.
LUNCH: Lunch is scheduled from 10:40-11:10. All money must be placed in an envelope or bag with the child’s name, amount, lunch number and my name. Please try to come and have lunch with your child. They always feel special when their parents show up for lunch. We will not have birthday parties at school. You may bring cupcakes at lunchtime on your child’s birthday.
SNACK: Pre-K does not buy ice cream after lunch for snack. We have snack after rest time. If you would like to donate snacks for the class it would be appreciated. We can use things like cheese crackers, nilla wafers, gram crackers, and animal crackers.
VOLUNTEERING: Please feel free to visit us at any time. I only ask that you give us a couple of weeks to get our procedures in place before you visit. If you would like to help out in our room, let me know and I will have things prepared for you.
DISCIPLINE: As a class we will develop a set of class rules and they will be posted as a reminder for us all. Children in early childhood do very well with rules when they have a sense of ownership of said rules.
GOING HOME: If you change the way your child will go home you need to write the change in the agenda or come by the school before 2:00 to make that change.
Lending Library: Children can check out a book from the classroom to read at home. Just put a note in agenda if you want a book sent home to read.
Wednesday Folders: Yellow folders will go home on Wednesdays. Please check the folder and return on Thursday.
Dress code: Please look at the dress code in the student hand book. Shirts need to have sleeves and shorts should be worn under skirts and dresses.
OUTDOOR PLAY: We are an active classroom. We have an outside playtime everyday (unless the weather is extremely hot, cold or rainy). Children develop gross motor skills-running, jumping, skipping, hopping, and climbing- on the playground as well as creative thinking and social skills. So dress your child accordingly. They will get dirty on the playground.
Please send a change of clothes (names on each item) and 2 towels for rest time.
No medication can be given at school until the office has a medication form filled out.
If you would like to donate any of the following items, we will need them throughout the year.
Zip lock bags
Healthy snacks (crackers, nuts, fruit)
I look forward to working with you and your child and to communicate with you concerning his or her progress, special achievements, and any concerns that may arise. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a call.
